About Michael Cowan
Michael Cowan is a real estate professional with two decades of brokerage, development, asset management and real estate finance experience. He specializes in Greater Toronto Area properties as well as retreat properties (cottages, resorts, rural land, and farms).
He has a B.A. (Hons.) from Queen’s University and an M.B.A. from the Richard Ivey School of Business where he was President of the MBA Association.
At Deloitte Real Estate Advisory he provided strategic, operational and transactional real estate consulting services to public and private entities including Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the City of Toronto, and the National Capital Commission.
As a Portfolio Manager at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Michael helped manage a $2.3bn shopping centre portfolio on behalf of four unlisted property funds.
As National Property Investment Manager at Woolworths Ltd. (Australia) he designed, developed and tested the financial model that has become the standard for evaluating all of Woolworths’ property development opportunities. He performed all financial modelling for the acquisition, development, and disposition of supermarkets, discount department stores, shopping centres, mixed-use developments, and gas stations; including the evaluation of alternatives such as location, site plan, timing and tenant mix.
As a principal, Michael has experienced success investing in the Canadian REIT market, vacation property development and second mortgage lending.
He is a member of the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce and The Newmarket Eagles Cycling Club.
